The Town of Cloverdale is situated in western Indiana. It is part of Putnam County and had a population of approximately 2,088 in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau. Cloverdale was laid out in 1839 but a United States Postal Service office has operated in the town since 1836. Cloverdale is named after the large fields of clover and shady dales that were located near the original town site at the time of its founding.
Despite the small size of Cloverdale, there are many benefits of living in the town. Several restaurants, businesses, schools, churches, and neighborhoods are located throughout Cloverdale. The town is also home to a lovely downtown. This area of Cloverdale is characterized by old bricked buildings that have been renovated and are now occupied by local businesses. Surrounding Downtown Cloverdale are many old homes and large trees. Many of the older homes in the area have been preserved and are well taken care of. Another benefit of living in Cloverdale is its close proximity to outdoor recreational opportunities. The town is located a short distance from Lieber State Recreation Area, Cagles Mill Lake, and Owen-Putnam State Forest. All of these destinations provide residents opportunities to enjoy the beautiful outdoors without traveling great distances from their homes.
It is necessary for Cloverdale residents to have easy access to heating and cooling systems. The town is located in a climate that experiences four distinct seasons. The fall and spring seasons are beautiful and temperatures are usually pleasant. Winters are very cold and summers tend to be very warm. Daytime temperature highs during the months of December, January, and February very from the mid to upper-30s on average. In addition to cool temperatures, snowfall is very common throughout this season. During the summer season, temperatures average in the mid-80s. On very warm days, temperatures will climb up to the 90s. Both heating and cooling systems help Cloverdale residents stay comfortable inside their homes throughout the changing seasons.
